The Script

Approx. 3-minute performance · Fictional drama

Scene 1

Manager's office · Morning

A write-up rests between Diamond and the manager. Tawana waits by the open door.

Manager

It says you refused to sign the night log.

Diamond

I wouldn't sign for something I couldn't confirm.

Manager

That distinction matters. Do you have notes?

Diamond

What I saw, when I saw it—and a signature that isn't mine.

Tawana

I heard you challenge the whole shift.

Diamond

I challenged an entry, not the people working.

Scene 2

Staff room · Later

Qunetta sets a copy of the handoff sheet on the table. Michelle lowers her voice.

Qunetta

The times don't match my notes.

Michelle

You're making this worse for everybody.

Qunetta

I'm making sure the record is accurate.

Diamond

We should give the manager both versions.

Tawana

You think paper protects you?

Diamond

No. The truth should be checked.

Scene 3

Staff room · Before the review

The door stays half open. Qunetta holds her notes. Tawana sits opposite Diamond. Michelle watches the doorway, ready to leave.

Tawana

I've worked here long enough to know a review never lands on just one desk. Everybody gets pulled into it.

Diamond

I know the write-up could follow me. I also know I didn't sign the night log.

Qunetta

I brought my notes because the times don't match. I won't say more than I can support.

Tawana

You think being careful will protect you? Management needs a name, and they'll choose whoever is easiest.

Diamond

Then let them ask me. I can explain the blank line and the signature that isn't mine.

Tawana

You still think facts arrive by themselves. Someone has to decide which facts get heard.

Michelle

I have a shift to cover and rent to pay. I can't be pulled into every argument.

Qunetta

No one asked you to choose a side. We asked you not to dismiss what you saw.

Michelle

I saw a lot of pressure and people trying to get through the night. That's all I'm saying.

Diamond

That's enough for now. Nobody should have to invent certainty because the manager wants a simple answer.

Tawana

You're new. You don't know what it takes to keep this place functioning when staff are short.

Diamond

I don't know everything yet. I do know my name is mine, and I won't pretend otherwise.

Scene 4

Administration hall · Afternoon

The manager compares the records. A review of the access log arrives. Tawana steps forward, then stops.

Manager

The write-up is on hold while we investigate.

Tawana

So she gets away with it?

Manager

The altered record came from your account, Tawana.

Tawana looks at Michelle. Michelle looks away.
